You’re losing your hair. What do you do now? Here is where I started when I was beginning my hair loss journey.
Welcome to the club! I finally admitted to myself that my hair was thinning in early November of 2020 (2020 just wasn’t a good year).
I forget the exact Google query that I put together but one of the first results I encountered while digging into hair loss was this Reddit thread: What can I do prevent baldness before it happens? The top response within that thread was very helpful…
In summary, modern hair medications have limited efficacy when it comes to hair regrowth but they are decent at maintaining the hair you have left. The response instructed hair loss victims to take quality pictures of their hairline every few months to track progress, a link to r/tressless (a subreddit devoted to hair loss), and stated that if you are experience hair loss then you should immediately start taking the “Big Three”.
What are the “Big Three” (when it comes to hair loss)?
The “Big Three” this poster was alluding to are the following hair loss medications…
- Finasteride (active ingredient in Propecia and Proscar)
- Minoxidil (active ingredient in Rogaine)
- Ketoconazole based shampoo
Hearing of the “Big Three”, learning about the underlying cause of male pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia), and studying why each medication in the “Big Three” helps treat MBD, got the ball rolling on my hair loss journey.
