There are plenty of places that sell Finasteride. This post explains how to save as much money as possible when filling your prescription.
I started using Finasteride a couple of weeks ago. There are plenty of ways to obtain a prescription for Finasteride and there are numerous places that sell it. However, some sources will allow you to stretch your dollar a bit further. This is a quick guide on how to be cost-efficient when using Finasteride.
Get a prescription that can be used anywhere
Some companies bundle prescribing and selling you Finasteride. Unfortunately, it may be difficult or impossible to obtain a copy of the prescription so that you can use it elsewhere. It’s better to have a prescription that can be used at any pharmacy. That way you can shop around and find the best price for Finasteride in your area (or online). I received my prescription from a local dermatologist. I can change where I fill my prescription by contacting the dermatology practice.
Get a lengthy prescription and buy Finasteride in bulk
If you can, talk to your provider about a prescription for 6 months or longer. That way you can buy Finasteride in bulk. It is much cheaper to buy 90 (3 month supply) or 180 (6 month supply) tablets as opposed to 30 at a time. See below…
As you can see, 180 tablets or a 6 month supply costs just $12.50 at Costco (worth noting: you don’t need a Costco membership to fill a prescription at their pharmacy). That would put your Finasteride costs at $25 a year if you filled your prescription twice. If you went for 12 fills at the cheapest 30 tablet price of $10.13 it would cost you $121.56 per year.
Use a medicine price comparison tool
As shown above, use a price comparison tool like GoodRx to figure out which pharmacy will give you the best price on Finasteride.
Splitting larger Finasteride tablets
It is possible to get a prescription for 5mg Finasteride (which is used to shrink an enlarged prostate) and then use a pill cutter to divide each tablet up into the proper dosage. If you are strapped for cash and are willing to spend time in order to split up tablets you might want to look into this option.
